First, no video editing software is really 'easy.' Some are easier than others, but because of the amount of things these packages are asked to do, they all have a learning curve. That being said, PowerDirector is a pretty smooth package. The interface is dark, which if you spend hours in front of a screen editing videos, you're eyes will appreciate. I've been using Sony's Vegas for some years, but I would get frustrated as I didn't use it continuously with large gaps between editing sessions.

I Would forget the tricks I learned. So I bought this program after reading reviews. It does have few quirks to me. When you work on a single section of video, like a clip taken from you video camera, and you want to save it you must save it as a 'Project.' To me that's not a project. A project to me is several clips joined together to make a video, short or long.

So the naming convention is a little odd.You can edit a video, or clip down in several ways. You can place your mouse pointer over the the end of video, where it will change into a two headed arrow, (same at the beginning edge of your video) to cut off some of end stuff, which I do a lot or you can place the marker (pointer) at the beginning and pull it to the right and it will take some of lead off the video. Which I also do. And you can also open the trimmer function and get a frame by frame view to trim out unwanted parts, even in the middle of your video.I am sure there others who are quite at home with most of the functions, but at first this was a little disconcerting to me. It's becoming clearer now, as I said, you do have to learn some things. It truly is easier to use than other systems I've been exposed to. And I must say, as one who used to write user manuals, this one is far more complete than most I have seen. You can access helpful videos online and there are user forums that offer advice. You'll have to put in a little work to use the program at first, but you'll soon get the hang of it.

I'm still new to it but I'm learning rather quickly and I am very pleased with it. REVIEW UPDATE: December 20th, 2017.This software makes the simplest CUT AND PASTE Editing a tedious horrid affair. Whoever came up with the actual cut and paste editing in this mess of a product should be fired immediately. I never thought I'd sing the praises of MICROSOFT Movie Studio but compared to this garbage product Microsoft Movie Studio Movie Creator was an intuitive masterpiece of Ease of Use Quality Engineering! How can you screw up CUT and PASTE DRAG and DROP video editing? This software made a confusing mess out of Cut & Paste and Drag & Drop which are generally the easiest computer tasks to master! To Cut and Paste using Power Director you must engage in this painful long suffering process of using tools that are anything but intuitive and easy to use. Everything about this software is done in such a stupid way to make even the simplest routine video editing tasks a total complex painful chore.

With Microsoft's video editor all you had to do was highlight what you wanted removed and hit delete, then save the redacted video and you were good to go. This garbage software cutting out or pasting in a video clip is so complex, I'll never figure it out in this lifetime. I am officially throwing this garbage software away because; the headaches that come with using this mess are not worth the pain I endure.I'm sure this software works but using it for the simplest cut and past editing tasks is like trying to cross the street in the USA Via Moscow, Russia. Using this software is a fate I would not wish on my worse enemy.INITIAL REVIEW STARTS HERE.This software installed easily no problems at all on Windows 10. The software is slowish but not painfully slow.

The biggest most horrible problem with this software is that it seems as if its interface was created by people who lacked any understanding of intuitive design. The design of the interface appears to be additive rather than a carefully thought out logical easy to use coherent assemblage of complementary functions. In this software form and function never merge becoming useful tool.Case in point everything on the X axis of the software options fight with everything else that is on the Y axis of the software options. What is almost criminal is there is no drag and drop cut and paste simplicity to most of the video and audio functions. I mean Microsoft Movie Maker interface was much much much better designed, infinitely easier to use, intuitive and better laid out than this garbage.

I mastered the Microsoft Movie Maker interface in minutes. I can get things done with this Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 Ultra interface but it is a fight, a virtual slog fest to get even the smallest thing done in this trash! It is almost as if the developers of this garbage went out of their way to make every single option in this software as difficult to use as humanly possible.

A video that would have taken me one hour to produce in Microsoft Movie Maker has taken 40 hours to make using this product. The sheer frustration factor just fighting to use Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 Ultra is many orders of magnitude greater than anything I have experienced since learning to use computer editing software. I hate this Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 Ultra so much that I absolutely dread having to use this mess. I actually put off working on my projects because; the thought of using this hard to understand interface makes me sick.I'll clean my oven, polish the granite tiles in my shower, feed the pigeons, change the light bulbs in the track lights, I'll make excuses to do anything else because; the frustration of using Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 Ultra just drains the life right out of me. The shame is the actual features in Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 Ultra actually blow Microsoft Movie Maker away in its awesomeness.

However the true awesome power of Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 Ultra is trapped behind an confusing, muddled badly executed interface from hell. The Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 Ultra interface and functions need to be untangled and better laid out so the true power of what this otherwise great software can be unleashed. This Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 Ultra software is exactly what I need to do the work I require but its usefulness is trapped behind a stupid interface and bad programming decisions that ruin what could have otherwise been the best basic video audio editing software on the market. I'm still new to it but I'm learning rather quickly and I am very pleased with it. I have been involved with video production for our small church and have been using various versions of Adobe Premier Elements. That is up until the Creative Cloud. I just cant justify a never ending payment for something I don't use but once a week. This software is not only easy to use like Premiere, in some cases easier, but it is noticeably faster.

Adobe products crashed a lot on my Core I7 SSD equipped laptop, and waited an hour or more into the encode to do it. This product has worked every time for me.

It encodes straight to H.264, something my older Premiere refused to do. I would much rather buy software license this way rather than rent a license. The products OK but when you have a problem you are out of luck. I needed to download a digital copy but it gave a message saying either the product code was wrong or I had already downloaded it I hadn't. I checked and rechecked the product key code many times my code is right.

FD the vendor asked me to send a picture of the key and I did. They said it was good to try again and I did. I got the same message and took a picture and sent it to them no response yet. You can sign up for technical phone support for $25.00 lots a luck. Their online support doesn't work.

PowerDirector has some good features and can create high quality rendering with standard and custom options, however it is the buggiest programs I've ever used. It crashes on me when opening files, creating files and even saving files. Probably every 3 or 4 project. Very big waste of time to re-import and start again. Customer Support not so great. Long to respond and no resolutions ever. They did not help when I received error messages opening AVI files from DV tape even after sending my logs.

I fixed myself by figuring out you need audio module turned on to open these type of files. I bought ti fix time sync for DV tape files using another software. Latest upgrade of no help with crashes.
